Here we are on our final leg of our 2019 Euro Trip! Although I could barely manage to force myself to pack up and leave the beautiful Dubrovnik, I am so excited to be ending the trip in Amsterdam.
Amsterdam is known for its historic buildings, the Anne Frank house, coffeeshops selling cannabis, the canals, and of course, the red light district, and I can't wait to see all of them with my own eyes!
HOTEL
We decided to book the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel in the Netherlands because the Renaissance hotels are luxurious and you tend to know what you're going to get, and this specific one has a convenient location in the heart of central Amsterdam. The service was friendly and nice, but I was actually pretty disappointed with our experience overall.
Europe doesn't have many rooms with queen or king beds, so it was understandable that they had given away all the rooms with queen beds that we had been promised when booking to other guests since we had arrived on the later side after dinnertime. The check-in process just took much longer than expected and they gave my friends a room that SMELLED SO TERRIBLE. I don't know what went down in that room before they gave it to us, but it was unbearable. When we called the front desk, they immediately told us they would switch our room, but the message was conveyed in a way which made us feel like earlier guests may have already complained and that they gave us the room while fully aware of the situation. Actually finding us a new room also took a long time.
FOOD
Quartier Putain
Quartier Putain is a cafe with hipster vibes in the middle of the Red Light District just off the main road. Given its location, I would've expected this place to be a tourist trap, but it was actually quite lovely and quaint (although this could've been due to the rain). We got a light breakfast with coffee that was perfect to help us get started with our day!
Tujuh Maret
Amsterdam is apparently known for having fantastic Indonesian food, which I did not know. We asked our guide on the boat tour for his favorite Indonesian restaurant, and he suggested this spot! I thought it was neat that there was so much variety, and we could pick from so many different little veggie and meat dishes on the menu. My friends and I love trying new foods so we ordered a lot of them, and although I didn't like most of them, it was a good experience.
Van Speijk
Van Speyk combines French flavours with traditional Dutch dishes and ingredients and focuses on using organic and fresh ingredients together to prepare pure and honest dishes. The atmosphere at this classic Amsterdam style brasserie was very sophisticated and cool, the service pleasant and knowledgable, and the food that we ordered was so so yummy!
Based on the server's recommendation, I decided on the Classic Beef Stew, a traditional Dutch beef stew with Dutch hotchpotch, smoked sausage, gravy and Zaandam mustard, which I highly recommend if you go. We had just left the ordeal with the checkin process at the Renaissance Amsterdam, and our dinner at Van Speijk really turned our night around!
OUTFIT DETAILS
I wore the Cropped Tie Waist Pants (in XS) from Lord & Taylor multiple times during the entire trip because they are just so dang comfy! I bought them online and they're definitely much longer and baggier on me than they had looked on the model, but I had decided to keep them anyways.
I paired them with a white faux leather jacket from Urban Outfitters over a white sleeveless blouse from Ann Taylor that I usually wear for work and a pair of comfy Steve Madden slip on sneakers.

Overall, our time in Amsterdam was an interesting one with both good and bad experiences but I'm glad we still did it for the Amstergram!
