I guess you can say that we really made Ra(n)ger Dave proud this weekend!
One of my best friends from high school, Loren, lives in San Francisco, and she did not have to ask me twice if I wanted to go to Outside Lands, the city's biggest music festival, in August! Paul Simon, Childish Gambino, and Twenty One Pilots are scheduled to headline the 2019 edition, also featuring a robust lineup of gourmet food vendors and art-filled grounds in Golden Gate Park. This is going to be my big trip this summer, and I am so excited to see Loren!
I am linking some of my favorite songs from a couple of the artists who will be playing — enjoy!

Childish Gambino - hip hop / rap

I decided to reach out to some of my college friends, who were super down to send it to OSL with us, and we all got the 3 day pass 🤪
In expected fashion, we pregamed for way too long and ended up showing up late in the afternoon two of the days when the music starts at noon. Of the artists I actually saw, the ones who I enjoyed the most included Childish Gambino, Kacey Musgraves, and Flume.
THE VENUE
Golden Gate Park is such a beautiful venue with a cool main stage (Lands End Stage) under the trees on the Polo Field.
THE VIBE
San Francisco is known for being a super chill city, both in terms of the culture and the chilly summer weather and infamous fog, so even though it's a music festival in the middle of summer, it's still important to remember to bundle up to stay warm. Luckily, the weather was amazing on the last day, and we didn't have to worry about bringing jackets and could pull out the tank tops, skirts, and dresses.
I'm just going to address the topic that I'm sure many of you are wondering: the use of marijuana at OSL and what Grass Lands is. Although California legalized the drug for recreational use in 2016, the use of cannabis in public is still generally illegal. For the first time in the history of Outside Lands music festivals, you can legally buy, consume, and smoke marijuana on festival grounds. Grass Lands was introduced last year mainly as an educational exhibit about cannabis, but this year, it brings two dozen vendors with products from disposable vaporizers to infused mints. There was even an arts and crafts event where you could make your own bong from fruits and vegetables.
THE FOOD AND DRINKS
Although the food looked really good, I definitely kept getting caught up in the lineups and forgot to eat. I got tacos from Tacolicious, one of my absolute favorite restaurants in the Bay Area, I highly recommend the Baja-Style Pacific Cod Cabbage and Guajillo-Braised Beef tacos. Loren and I also managed to grab a bite at some point from The Chariman, a SF food truck. I got some baos (the pork belly steamed and miso tofu baked ones), which were both so yummy.
There's also a huge selection of cocktails, beers, and wine at the festival. Cocktail Magic has six different options including the Comstock Saloon, RadHaus, and Starline Social Club, while Beer Lands has a lineup of 31 breweries including Fort Point, Calicraft, Oakland United and Old Kan. Wine Lands has several new options including Andy and Jesse Katz’s Aperture.
