Before the coronavirus pandemic, I ate pretty much every meal outside and rarely cooked because of my work schedule and that I'm a big social eater. Now that I'm not eating my meals in the office and am unable to sit down with friends at restaurants during the nationwide lockdown, I've been turning to my friends and the internet to find new recipes and see what people are actually making at home. Here are some of my favorite recipes that I've made or ones that I'm looking forward to trying!
DRINKS
Dalgona Coffee (Hummingbird High)
I'm sure this whipped coffee has been blowing up your feeds these past few weeks. The photogenic beverage draws inspiration from the South Korean candy with the same name and is made by whipping equal proportions of hot water, instant coffee powder, and sugar until the mixture becomes creamy then adding it on top of cold or hot milk.
Summer Splash Cocktail (Neiman Marcus)
Bring the beach vibes home with this fresh pineapple and citrus cocktail from Neiman Marcus!
BREAKFAST & BRUNCH
Savory
Avocado Smash (Bluestone Lane)
The Avo Smash, one of Bluestone Lane's signature dishes, is such a brunch staple and so yummy and easy. It’s been mentioned in The New York Times, video tapped for Family Circle Magazine, blogged about by The Food Network and was named “this year’s lunch” by J. Crew’s creative director Jenna Lyons in 2015. The recipe calls for avocados, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, toasted rustic multigrain or gluten-free bread, and other yummy ingredients for a tahini sauce to drizzle over the toast. For added protein, top with a poached egg.
Sweet
Banana Bread (Tory Burch)
I don't really have a sweet tooth, but I just love banana bread! I definitely had to pass along this easy banana bread recipe that Tory Burch shared on her Instagram.
French Toast with Vanilla Anglaise (Queensyard)
This French toast topped with vanilla anglaise from Queensyard is rich and will be sure to satisfy your sweet tooth for breakfast!
Granola (Wild Ink)
This is a hot take, but I actually think that granola tastes like bark. Trust me, it's not a fact I easily accepted (I've been trying all different brands of granola on and off since high school to try to convince myself that it's something I like), but I finally came to terms with it last year lol. I am, however, still going to include this granola recipe from Wild Ink because I know many of you out there will appreciate it!
Liège Wafels
Blue Bottle's Liège Wafels, which are tender and fluffy inside with a crisp, sweet outer crust, pair perfectly with coffee for breakfast, as a snack, or for dessert. Syrup won't be necessary for these Belgian-style yeasted wafels, but hey, you can always add whatever toppings your heart desires.
Dinner
Roasted Chicken with Vegetables (Hudson Yards Grill)
Nothing like a good roasted chicken with some vegetables for Sunday night's dinner.
Chicken Parmesan (Hudson Yards Grill)
Chef Michael Lomonaco from Hudson Yards Grill shows us how to make Chicken Parm for all you chicken parm bois and girls (ok I admit this is an inside joke that most of you are not going to get).
Sauteed Wild Striped Bass (Citarella)
Cooking fish can be daunting if you've never done so before, but this sautéed wild striped bass recipe from Citarella is great for any beginner or seasoned cook.
Hot Dog (Hudson Yards Grill)
No ball game is complete without being able to chomp on a hot dog, and it's such a bummer that sports have been cancelled, so why not enjoy the ballpark concession staple at home?
Pasta al Pomodoro (Hudson Yards Grill)
Pasta al Pomodoro is a quick light dish that is simple to make and delicious.
Pasta alla Gricia (Hudson Yards Grill)
The guanciale, or cured jowl, gives Pasta alla Gricia its burst of flavor.
Risotto (Hudson Yards Grill)
The best risotto, a Northern Italian rice dish, is rich and creamy!
Swedish Meatballs (IKEA)
I feel like I'm just dishing out one hot take after another, but I also don't really like meatballs that much and have never tried IKEA's infamous Swedish Meatballs. I have heard my mom rave about them before though so thought this would be a fun recipe to pass along as well. You don't even have to wander around aimlessly in an IKEA trying to find your way for hours before enjoying these.
Dessert
Apple Cake (Wild Ink)
Warm apples and cinnamon together makes for such a dreamy and delicious dessert like this Apple Cake from Wild Ink.
Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookies (Citarella)
Chocolate chip cookies are arguably one of the most classic and popular desserts.
Mochi Ice Cream
The Japanese dessert Mochi ice cream is one of my favorite desserts because I looove both the ice cream and the soft Mochi shell. Mochi is pretty challenging to make in my opinion, but the end product is so yummy.
Other
Pullman Loaf (Queensyard)
Everyone and their moms have been making bread during this time, and I'm hoping to be able to tackle the challenge too. This Pullman loaf from Queensyard looks irresistible.
