Food and Supplies to Prepare for Self-Isolation/Quarantine

I'm a very anxious and cautious person, so I've been following news about COVID-19 since the early days of China's coronavirus outbreak and have been very worried about the disease spreading to the U.S. As someone who has insomnia (lack of sleep affects your immune system) and had viral-induced asthma for a year in high school, I have to be extra careful since I might be at higher risk from Coronavirus. I am putting a list of items to prepare myself to stay at home for at least the next three weeks and for those who may find themselves in a two-week home quarantine.

Unlike a natural disaster, we will still have electricity and running water (although it's always good to have a couple days supply of drinkable water prepared just in case) and a functioning fridge and freezer. First, look in your pantry, fridge, and freezer to take inventory of what you already have and see what you can throw away to make more room.

Next, think about the foods you typically consume and their shelf lives (short vs. long). Brainstorm some recipes for several meals, and make a list of the ingredients needed. What I did ultimately did was buy foods that I'm going to eat fresh the first week then supplement that with the canned, frozen, and dehydrated versions.

Before we continue to the list of food and supplies, I urge everyone to watch out for and think of those around us in times like these. Please don't contribute to the panic buying we've been seeing and avoid buying unusually large amounts of products. This contributes to large price increases and shortages that hurts especially those who are economically disadvantaged.
